Emergence, is a group exhibition for the 2021 G5 Summer Intensive. G5 is a program founded and directed by Liz Gates and Doug Welsh with the mission of creating multi-disciplinary interaction and community for MFA candidates at the University of Houston.
Excerpt from the curatorial statement:
"This exhibition celebrates their hard work and passion. They have emerged from darker days into a brighter future – one that they are creating together. It is not often that you see a group of artists come together with such a unified mission – but our times apart have emphasized the necessity of community. Their work, while individually speaking to each of their respective practices, is symbolic of their shared goals and emergence into this time and this space as one."
Curated by Erin Carty and Sarah Beth Wilson from Houston Art League
Works by Isela Aguirre, Saran Alderson, Layla Bispo, Cat Davila-Martinez, Mark Francis, Liz Gates, Julia Kidd, Michelle Matthews, Reema and Sydney Parks, Ashita Sawhney, Hollie Stephan, Lee Walters, Douglas Welsh and Isabelle Zimmerman
